RAM is the best memory storage component for computers. “random access memory” is called RAM because the way RAM works is you choose a column and row inside the computer that allows you to accesses the cell were the memory is stored in so you can randomly accesses anything.  Also RAM allows you to find empty space inside the computer and place the information in any order. Finally RAM is more of a temporary hold for information, and what I mean by this is that as long as the computer has electronic power then it will hold the data, but if you churn your computer off then you lose all the data you haven’t saved yet.

What many people like you may be thinking is what type of RAM do I need for my computer or how do I check to see how much RAM is being used? The first chose you should try is go to your computer manual which should come with your computer and just read what type of ram you need.  If you lost your manual then search Crucial Memory Advisor Tool located at Crucial.com or the Memory Search at Kingston.com which will do a search threw computer manufacturer or by your motherboard manufacturer. They give you information like the maximum amount of memory you’re computer can use or how many memory slots your motherboard has.

Also what you need to think about is what type of RAM you need like SDRAM, DDR and Rambus DRAM. SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) runs with a 3.3 volt, 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs.

DDR (Double Data Rate SDRAM) doubles the rate of data transfer of standard SDRAM allowing the DDR to run with a 333MHz actually operates at 166MHz * 2 (aka PC333 / PC2700) or 133MHz*2(PC266 / PC2100). DDR is a 2.5 volt technology that uses 184 pins in its DIMMs.

Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) is the most expensive RAM but its a solo chose of memory for Intel’s Pentium 4. RDRAM comes in three different ways PC600, PC700, and PC800.

The performance caused by adding RAM to your computer is that it allows you to multitask on your computer a lot faster than without it. Also the influences cased by adding RAM to your computer is allowing you to save thing to your computer but not have to what their while it saves you can go and do different things then come back to it latter, or you can pull up a window leave it up and go to different websites and do stuff all at the same time.

The history of RAM is not vary old it came around in the 1960 to 1970 at least that’s when it started to become popular. What started the idea for RAM was magnetic core memory which was develop in 1951 which was used up until the static and dynamic RAM which used relays or vacuum tubes instead of a magnetic core.
